Fun ways to celebrate Children’s Week.

Happy Children’s Week!

This annual event runs till 30 October in 2022, and it’s a chance for all of us to celebrate the little people in our lives and the right of children to enjoy childhood.

It’s really important that grown-ups and governments work together to ensure under 18s get all their rights, and although this is a serious business, engrained by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child, there’s lots of fun to be had promoting children’s right to play, discover, speak and experience everything else they’re entitled to.

There are Children’s Week events and activities happening around the nation, and you’ll find action aplenty in Australia’s early childhood education and care services!

Many educators and children are busy putting up Children’s Week decorations, singing along to the Children of Australia song, eating cake, playing games and generally celebrating under-fives’ rights and achievements.

There are lots of different ways for each childcare community to get involved with Children’s Week, and at Fit Kidz' nine Learning Centres in New South Wales, the festivities are well underway!

Ali Bale from Fit Kidz Centre Support says, “To celebrate Children’s Week, our children and their families are invited to join us in various activities across the week.

“For example, we’re hosting a talent show, holding a Rainbow Dress-Up Day, having ‘drop-in and play’ mornings and are also celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights.”

Meanwhile, at Goodstart Early Learning Prospect Vale in Tasmania, some fuzzy family members will be joining their Children’s Week celebrations.

Centre Director, Bianca Schipper says, “We plan on holding a teddy bears’ picnic afternoon tea on Friday. This will include stories, games, songs and a bear hunt – one of the children’s favourite songs!”

You’re encouraged to join your service in celebrating Children’s Week, and if you’re looking for ways to have a little fun at home, then this Big Person’s Guide to Celebrating will give you some great ideas, including:

  • Planning a treasure hunt
  • Holding a movie afternoon, with family footage
  • Sharing some homemade cupcakes
  • Writing a letter to your child – highlighting their special skills, your fondest memory of them and your wish for their future.

And whether your drop in for celebrations at your service, or listen to your child’s looooong account of them, we wish your family a fantastic Children’s Week!
